Wind farms construction auction opens in Albania

Wind farms construction auction opens in Albania

Albania will also generate electricity from wind, through wind farms that are expected to be built soon, thus continuing with the diversification of energy sources.

The Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, announced the opening of the auctions and called on investors to be part of the competition.

"The auction will give the opportunity to the bidders to propose projects which have a minimum capacity of 10 megawatts and a maximum capacity of 75 megawatts. In total, the pre-fixed price, regarding this auction, will be directed for 100 megawatts in total which will be purchased from the Republic of Albania for consumption and normally this price will be 75 euros ceiling for megawatts and as we did in previous auctions we give the opportunity to all competing companies to offer the lowest price. But, of course, in addition to the lowest price, we will have two phases in terms of evaluating this auction", said Minister Balluku.

She announced that, as in the case of photovoltaic auctions, the process for wind farms auctions will take place in two stages. In the first phase will be done the evaluation and verification of the companies that will participate in the competition, starting from the technical experience or financial resources, while in the second phase comes the evaluation of the bids.

The Minister of Infrastructure and Energy also announced that the whole process has been drafted in close cooperation with SECO, thanking for the support given to the Swiss Ambassador to our country, as well as the EBRD.

"We have conducted a genuine study, which today will be made available to all companies that will want to invest in the wind energy sector and will participate in this auction. This study clearly gives all the protected areas in which wind farms cannot be built. Gives the areas that have the highest feasibility for wind production in the country, and I want to emphasize that these areas are over 20% of the Albanian territory, thus giving the opportunity to select in all regions of our country, be they in the north, or in the south and of course they start from an altitude of over 150 meters above sea level", said Balluku.

She said that the fact that this auction is based on a thorough study and the fact that all investors will be able to select the areas will give them clues as to where it would be most favorable for the investment and specify bid prices.

The opening ceremony of the auction was also attended by Prime Minister Edi Rama, Swiss Ambassador to Tirana Adrian Maître, and EBRD representatives.
