A survey by the State Institute of Statistics of Albania says that about 53% of women have been raped at least once in their lives, Euronews Albania reports.
The study shows alarming data according to which a part of ther Albanian society accepts violence within the family. Specifically, 46.5% of respondents believe that women must endure the violence used to keep the family together.
On the other hand, 27.5% believe that when a woman is raped by her husband it is also her fault, even the data show that 27.6% of people think it is a shame if a woman talks about this problem with someone outside her family.
Violence against women in many cases comes even when they refuse to have sex with their spouses, according to 11.4% of respondents.
But the figure is high for women who have experienced violence in their lives, so have admitted at least 52.9% of interviewed women, and 36.6% claim they are currently experiencing it.
The study shows that controlling behaviors, psychological violence, economic violence, and sexual violence against the woman partner have appeared during the first three years of marriage, the study even notes that the highest number of violent male partners are those with secondary education and low.
