Albania approves decision to shelter about 3000 Afghans

 The Albanian government decided today to grant temporary shelter to Afghan nationals fleeing their country because the Taliban took control of Afghanistan.

Also, today it was decided to create a Task Force to manage the flow of Afghan refugees, headed by the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, but also other colleagues in the Rama government:

Minister of Interior
Minister of Defense
Minister of Finance and Economy
Minister of Education, Sports and Youth
Minister of Health and Social Protection
Minister of Tourism and Environment
The period of action of the Task Force is until the completion of the review of requests for international protection by Afghan citizens.

Afghans will be under the protection of our country for 1 year, according to the decision of the government. Applicants for protection may be restricted in their movement if deemed necessary by the authority responsible for asylum and refugees.

The Prime Minister of the country, Edi Rama in an interview for foreign media has stated that about 3000 Afghans are expected to be sheltered in our country.

The first group of Afghan migrants to arrive in the country is expected to take refuge in the city of Berat.
