Census in Australia, calls on Albanians to register in Albanian

Australia conducts its population census throughout August. In the most recent census in 2106 only 2870 persons have been declared Albanians with an increase of 19.7 percent from the 2011 census.

Meanwhile, Albanian associations in Australia call for Albanians to enter the Albanian language in the new census when filling out the form to prove the real number of Albanians there.

"Here below shows the number of Albanians in total when we are in Australia when so many are only in Adelaide. No matter from which region you come or were born here, if it says that the Albanian language is spoken at home it is accepted and the real number of how many Albanians we are in Australia comes out. Regards from the Presidency, if you have any questions you can post it on this page", it is said in the post of "Albanian Australian Society in South Australia.

The form also asks for the religion, the language, the place of birth of the parents, and the year they arrived in Australia.

The first Albanian registered in Australia is Naum Konxha, who went to Brisbane in 1885 with his English wife and decided to stay forever.
