Albanian writer Gazmend Kapllani, director of the Department of Albanology at DePaul University in Chicago, says the reason why Afghanistan fell back into the hands of the Taliban is that the country was being run by a corrupt political class.

Kapllani said that at this point the US has a responsibility to entrust the management of Afghanistan to an incompetent and rotten class that "never gained popularity from the Afghans."

"We blame the army and police, 66,000 police and soldiers have been killed over the years, the political leadership has been completely rotten and that was the recipe for failure," Kapllani said.

The writer, who is a resident of the US, has considered as convincing President Joe Biden's statement on the situation and said that there is no other way out of a civil war than what the US did.

Kapllani also commented on the decision of Albania and Kosovo to host Afghans. He said it was a very good decision and addressed the public not to be afraid as the people expected to come are educated, liberal, and among the most pro-Western in Afghanistan.
