The EU activated today the "Civil Protection Mechanism" to help countries like Albania that have been affected by mass fires.
The EU statement said they were ready:
Two helicopters - from the Netherlands and the Czech Republic to Albania;
45 firefighters - from Slovenia to North Macedonia;
Two firefighting aircraft - from Cyprus to Greece;
Two firefighting aircraft - from France to Italy;
Assistance through the "EU Civil Protection Mechanism" also covers 75% of transport costs.
In parallel, the EU says it has made satellite maps available to its emergency services to coordinate operations.
