463 million euros is the value of the foreign direct investment that Albania absorbed in the first half of the year, marking a slight increase of 3 million euros compared to the same period last year.

Referring to Bank of Albania data, foreign investment flows in these 6 months are dominated by the extractive industry sector where their value reached 95 million euros at the end of June, marking an increase compared to 2020.

While the strongest growth was recorded by foreign investments in real estate, bringing their total to 80 million euros in the first half of the year, while more foreign investment flows were attracted in the financial system sector and that of the processing industry.

The results of the energy projects TAP and Devoll on the other hand have caused foreign investments in this sector to shrink significantly by 112 million euros less than in the first six months of 2020.

The Netherlands also tops the list as the largest foreign investor in the country with 104 million euros by the end of June, despite the fact that the value of inflows from this country marked a significant decline this period.

After it, the second-largest investor is Italy with a total inflow of 61 million euros, followed by Turkey and France respectively with 48 and 47 million euros inflows from foreign direct investment from these countries.

Meanwhile, Swiss investments have seen a strong contraction, decreasing to 28 million euros, from 117 million euros reached in the same period a year ago, mainly due to the extinction of the effects of the completion of the TAP pipeline, reducing the weight because during the last two years the performance of investments from this country has been mainly related to this major investment.
