The Western Balkans continues to be a region of clash of geostrategic interests by various international actors.

This was stated by the President of Montenegro, Milo Djukanovic during his speech at the UN General Assembly, which is being held in New York and where world leaders have gathered.

Djukanovic warned that the region was in danger of destabilizing, that its European perspective was slowing down and that belief in European values was being undermined.

"Even today there are challenges and threats to multiethnic democracy in the Balkans. The Western Balkans is again an arena of geopolitical interests, the consequences of which are the slowdown in the integration of Western Balkan societies into their natural European environment," said Milo Djukanovic, President of Montenegro.

According to the Montenegrin president, the development of the region has lagged behind and space has been created to reverse the destructive theories that the region cannot be multi-ethnic, especially in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He said these theories were being used as an alibi to resume the nationalist projects that led to the wars of the 1990s, and that Montenegro was committed to opposing these dangerous ideas..
