Queen Geraldine of Albania
In the process of evaluating the figures who have contributed to the city of Tirana, but also at the request of the Embassy of Hungary (as her origin was Hungarian), the municipal council of Tirana approved today the placement of the statue of Queen Geraldine on Fortuzi Street, near Zogu I Boulevard.

She contributed to the establishment of social institutions, such as hospitals, asylums, and orphanages. She was fully committed to promoting women's rights and their emancipation. She played an important role in establishing the first maternity hospital in Albania. After the fascist occupation, she left Albania with her family to return many years later.

She passed away on October 22, 2002 in Tirana. In honor of the Queen's legacy, in April 2004, the then President of the Republic Alfred Moisiu awarded her the "Mother Teresa" medal after her death.

The municipality has undertaken a series of initiatives to evaluate important figures of the city, not only in naming streets but also in placing their names on new public institutions in Tirana.
