Most of the expenses of Albanian families go for food. The typical family spends 41% of the money on food, according to EUROSTAT, Euronews Albania reports.
Tirana is the richest region, where families consume an average of 98 thousand ALL goods and services per month. Whereas, Kukes is the poorest region where the average family expenses are 70 thousand ALL.
In 2019, Albania was the first country in the region with the highest percentage of food expenditures.
But by 2020, the pandemic situation has brought about changes in the structure of household spending, increasing the need to purchase medicines and treatment costs.
Albanian households spent an average of 5150 ALL per month on health care last year, an increase of 28% compared to a year ago.
According to INSTAT, 392 million euros came out of the pockets of citizens for this purpose.
As the economy gradually opened up, the country is already facing rising prices, which have affected staple foods from bread, meat, and dairy to oil and its by-products.
