Albanian youth prefer to work in large international companies. According to a Deloitte survey, entitled "First Steps in the Labor Market 2020", the chapter of Albania, almost 50% of respondents have chosen large international companies as their preference when asked which companies they would like to work.
This choice, according to the report, is very much related to the organizational culture of these companies, which focus on developing and maintaining human capital and treating employees as the most valuable talents and assets for them.
The second is the preference to work in a personal business which is also reinforced in this year’s survey. 15.4% of respondents state that they would prefer to work in their business. 9.6% of respondents expressed a preference for large national companies and only 3.2% for start-ups.
83.6% are willing to move abroad for work
A hot topic of discussion in our country is also related to the departure of young people from the country due to work. 86.3% of young people would be willing to relocate to another country for work. There is a decrease in this trend compared to previous years, especially in the case of those who are absolutely ready to move, Monitor reports.
Asked if the COVID-19 pandemic has affected their alertness, only 19.9% said their alertness has decreased. The rest confirm that this readiness has not changed (64%) or has increased (16.1%).
Even at the regional level, young people would be willing to relocate abroad for work.
Related to their desire to develop professionally, to benefit from diverse work and life experiences, this aspect can be considered as a characteristic of the Millennials generation, the report says.
Opportunity to grow in career, as the first choice
When choosing an employer, the most important factor for them is the opportunity to grow professionally and in their career, and this is the first choice for 57% of survey participants. It is not new that the wage factor continues to be an important factor in this regard.
Meanwhile, for other factors, there are no clear differences between age groups.
Preferred salary level
Another important aspect that this survey analyzes are the expectations above the salary level:
43.7% said they would like to earn 251 to 500 euros per month. This category includes most of the participants in the survey of the age groups 18-22 years and 21-24 years, who are at the beginning of their professional careers.
Asked what their answer would be if they were asked before the pandemic, 27.3% estimated that they would like to earn more, 70.2% answered that they would rate it with the same value and 2.5% would rate it lower.
Working in hybrid form is preferred online
With the advent of COVID-19 and the measures taken by the government for the protection and safety of citizens, many companies, as well as universities, were forced to embrace distance working/learning. This new way of working brought about the biggest discussion that is being encountered regarding the future of work. Most of us before the pandemic knew a way of working, that of the office; during the pandemic we learned how to work from home and today when we have had the opportunity to live both ways, we discuss what we would like the future of work to be: fully office-hybrid form- or fully home.
Due to the importance of the form of work, this question was also addressed to the young people participating in the survey.
51.8% of respondents responded once or twice a week would prefer to work remotely. Also, a significant number responded that they prefer to work more than a week a month at a distance (17.3 percent).
Insufficient evaluation encourages employees to leave work
The last element that complements the youth-related job profile is also the main reason to change employers.
The data show that low wages were not assessed as the primary aspect by survey participants for changing employers. 47.4% of them answered that non-evaluation of their work is the main component that would orient them towards making a decision to change employers;
17.6% of them say that the insufficiency of opportunities for professional development and growth would orient them towards looking for other options and 11.9% consider the bad atmosphere and bad relations at work as the main causes that lead to leaving the post of work.
