Albanian painter Zeqirja Rexhepi wins the career award
 
 Arts Nova Scotia Art Center together with Creative Nova Scotia in Halifax has announced the Albanian painter Zeqirja Rexhepi winner of the annual award in the category "Established Artist Recognition Award" for 2021. Painter Rexhepi was selected by a special commission for his excellence in artistic achievement, momentum for the future, and professional recognition in Nova Scotia and beyond. Zeqirja Rexhepi or as she is also known as Zeqa, “continues to stand on an extremely dimensional art career. Determined, adaptable, empathetic, and transformative are repeated attributes of his years of experience and work." - it is said in the announcement of this artistic center.

Zeqirja Rexhepi was born in 1955 in the village of Përlepnica in Gjilan/Gnjilane in Kosovo. He extensively exhibited his paintings in Kosovo and abroad and was commissioned as a muralist to create murals for several churches and mosques. He is a co-author with Demir Behluli of the monumental work in the Church of St. Anthony in Binçë of Gjilan "Martyrs of Karadak 1846 - 48".

During the war in Kosovo in 1999, Rexhepi and his family fled and spent more than a month in a refugee camp in Macedonia. The Rexhepi family became part of about seven thousand refugees from Kosovo who went to Canada with the help of the Canadian government.

Since his arrival in Canada, he has devoted every day to his profession and passion for painting, and throughout this time there have been many personal and group exhibitions, whose works have enriched the art scene not only in Canada. His paintings have been exhibited in the Art Gallery of Saint Mary University, Pier 21, the Nova Scotia Art Gallery, the Aviation Museum Gallery, the Dalhousie University Art Gallery, etc. Rexhepi is also known for his fruitful cooperation with the Embassy of Albania and Kosovo in Ottawa, with the Consulate General of Kosovo in Toronto, as well as with the Albanian community associations throughout Canada in many national and cultural activities.

The award honors artists who have come out of their initial training and development to become well-known artists in Nova Scotia and beyond. Hisd monetary value is C $ 5,000.
