The building of the Municipal Assembly and the building of the National Council of Albanians in Bujanovac were decorated with the Albanian national flag on Sunday, the Independence Day of Albania.

The flag in the municipal building was raised by the mayor Nagip Arifi.

"Even this time, although legally prohibited, Albanian national flag will fly in the municipal building to remember our glory and history," he wrote on Facebook.

This act was welcomed with applause by the councilors of the Albanian majority in the Municipal Assembly.

But, in addition to the Albanian national flag, the flag of Serbia and the flag of the European Union are also placed in the municipal assembly building.

Earlier this week, MP Shaip Kamberi in the Serbian Parliament said that Albanians will never give up their identity and national symbols.

In recent years, Serbian state authorities have prosecuted Albanians who hoisted the Albanian national flag in public places.

Ragmi Mustafa and some Albanian officials and leaders of public institutions have been fined for using the Albanian national flag in public buildings.
