Adelina Sejdini |
A 47-year-old woman who collaborated with the Italian police to destroy a mafia group that exploited girls for prostitution has committed suicide by jumping from the bridge, "Il fatto quotidiano" reports. The woman, who was previously used as a sex worker, denounced her tutors in 1996 when she was only 22 years old. She was abducted and then raped and exploited for years as a victim of prostitution in Italy. The Albanian citizen, Adelina Sejdini had applied for refugee status, which was never accepted. According to Italian media, this was the reason why the woman committed suicide. A few days ago, she attempted suicide by burning herself with gasoline in front of the Interior Ministry, to attract government attention, while receiving severe bodily injuries. She had even tried to talk to Italian President Sergio Mattarella, as with refugee status, she hoped to buy an apartment in Italy. Earlier, she said that the Italian state had promised her protection when she denounced the tutors, but this did not happen. "The Italian state, many years ago, persuaded me to denounce the tutors, they promised me protection. I demand a minimum of rights because for many years I have fought to help all victims of trafficking, I ask to be granted Italian citizenship. Recently, Adelina Sejdini was diagnosed with a tumor, but despite her poor health, she did not stop trying, often going to Rome. The deceased decided to end not only these efforts but also her life, by jumping off a railway bridge.
