Tirana Police conducted an anti-drug action on Thursday evening in a company that trades fruits, where they found and seized about 119 kg of cocaine.

Tirana Police report that the drugs were hidden inside a container with bananas that allegedly came from Latin America, and that three persons have been detained so far.

Local media reported that the container with bananas was kept under surveillance by the police while it was in Durrës Port and was tracked until the container arrived at the fruit company, in Vaqarr.

Police forces have intervened at the moment the packages of bananas were being unloaded, where it was suspected that the drugs were hidden.

After arriving at the port of Durres, the container underwent a control scanner but surprisingly nothing suspicious was found. On the way to the warehouses on the outskirts of Tirana, in Romanat, the truck was stopped by yet unidentified persons, who for a few minutes exercised control and then left quickly.

Police were notified by representatives of the banana importing firm about the episode, and 119 kilograms of cocaine were found inside the consignment.

This is not the first case of cocaine being transported from Latin America by containers to the Port of Durrës, but it is interesting to note that although large quantities of cocaine are seized, cocaine still continues to come from Latin America in bananas containers. The only change this time is that the police acted at the moment of the unloading of the cocaine ie bananas, so not in the Port of Durres, but near Tirana, in Vaqarr.
