First 'Omicron' infections confirmed in Albania

The news was announced by the Director of the Institute of Public Health, Eugena Tomini. She has indicated that so far two cases of this variant have been confirmed.

"The Institute of Public Health, after systematically sending samples, has confirmed two cases of 'Omicron', in the total number of samples sent against genomic sequencing. Based on the epidemiological investigation and the suspicion of experts, they were also confirmed with a laboratory diagnosis. "Meanwhile, the 'Delta' variant continues to prevail, despite the 'Omicron' variant", said Tomini.

She said that in order to avoid the mass spread of this virus, anti-Covid measures should be respected, but also called for vaccination.

"It is worth emphasizing that since we have a predominance of the 'Omicron' variant, the measures are to be respected, masks, hygiene, but also minimization and avoidance of gatherings, are important. All of these measures must be combined with getting the vaccine," said Tomini.
