According to the Albanian State Statistics Institute, known as INSTAT, out of about 540 thousand cars in the country until the end of 2020, about 98 thousand, or 18.2% were Mercedes Benz, ranking first.
In second place is Volkswagen, with 91.7 thousand vehicles, or 17% of the total.
Third is the Daimler Chrysler (12.1%).
While dominating the road, Benz cars are the oldest. According to INSTAT, Until December 2020, the "Mercedes Benz" brand is registered as the most used car brand produced before 2000 and the years 2011-2020. The "Volkswagen" brand is registered as the most widespread car brand with the production year of 2000-2010.
Generally, the cars circulating in the country are old, or very old. According to INSTAT, 26% of the cars circulating in the country were produced before 2000, or more than 20 years old. Most, or 65%, are products between 2000-2010, or more than 10 years old. Only 9% of cars are less than 10 years old.
According to INSTAT, In 2020, the total number of road vehicles with status "active" and "temporarily deregistered" results in 676,811 vehicles, from 628,937 vehicles registered until 2019, increasing by 7.6%.
From road vehicles by type, the largest percentage of the total number of road vehicles is occupied by "Cars" (79.7%), "Vehicles for mixed transport" (6.9%), and Motorcycle (5.0% ),
The number of vehicles by 2020 has increased by 7.9% compared to 2019, followed by Vehicles for mixed transport increased by 4.8% compared to 2019.
The highest number of road vehicles is registered in the district of Tirana for 2020, accounting for 36.8% of the total road vehicles registered in the country.
The region with the smallest number of road vehicles is Kukes with 2.1% of the total road vehicles.
Manual gear cars account for the largest share (64.9%) of total vehicles resulting in "active" or "temporarily deregistered" status by 2020.
The number of vehicles registered until December 2020 produced before 2000 has decreased by 1.4% while the group of vehicles with a year of production 2011-2020 has increased by 27.3%.
75% of cars use diesel
The largest number of vehicles circulating in our country until 2020, use diesel, 73.5%, from 73.3% until 2019, followed by vehicles that use gasoline, with 18, 2% to the total number of vehicles from 19.4% that this group occupied until 2019. The number of vehicles that use diesel in 2020, has increased by 8.3% compared to 2019.
