The OSCE Presence in Tirana is organizing a three-day conference on the issue of missing persons during the Albanian communist period.

Ambassador Vincenzo Del Monaco emphasized the fact that over 600,000 people have disappeared from communism and the cases have remained unsolved in these 30 years.

Lots of noise for nothing! - this is what the OSCE Ambassador in Tirana, Vincenzo Del Monaco, calls the actions of the Albanian state these 30 years on the issue of the missing during the communist period.

"Many times the country has said that it will identify and find missing persons… however, to date not a single issue has been resolved," said the ambassador.

This did not prompt Albanian public officials to comment on future plans.

The Minister of Justice, Ulsi Manja, spoke about the achievements so far. Such is the definition of the word "missing person" in the 2020 law.

"In July 2020, we approved amendments to the law on information on documents of the dictatorship period. Definition of the word 'missing person'. They were called politically persecuted. Today I say that the time has come to concretely define the role of each institution and to coordinate," he said.

The conference is organized by the OSCE in Tirana and the University of Tirana with the support of the German government, from 13 to 15 December to discuss transitional justice and the Albanian experience.
