The Tirana prosecutor's office announced today that it has arrested at least 4 people in the framework of the investigation launched for the leak of official data on the salaries of over 690 thousand citizens, which were distributed through the Whatsapp application, a few weeks ago.

Among the arrested persons are two IT employees in the General Directorate of Taxes, Eni Qirjako and Andi Agaraj. According to the Prosecution, it was Qirjako who started working in July 2020, and who only a few months later turned out to have passed the data to her colleague Agaraj from time to time. The latter is said to have requested the data under the justification of a study.

But according to the investigation, it turns out that the IT employee sold the collected data in parts, in exchange for modest amounts of 20 thousand ALL, for each time he gave them to two other persons, Klodian Sota and Endri Ikonomi, both arrested.

Tirana Prosecutor Elizabeta Imeraj, stated during a press conference, that up to this stage of the investigation the mechanism of data flow has been revealed, and that work is being done to understand what was the purpose of their publication.

Investigations have been extended to other institutions, as they have also circulated targeted data on vehicles, or earlier and personal data that circulated as a list used by the structures of the Socialist Party in the run-up to the April 25 elections.
