| Olta Xhaçka's speech after Albania took over the mandate ofr UN Security Council |
Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka congratulated Albanians through a message for the New Year.
At the start of the 2-year mandate for Albania, at the United Nations Security Council, Xhaçka stressed that our country will contribute to addressing the hottest security issues in the world.
According to her, Albania will use this opportunity to advance the Kosovo issue.
Xhaçka's Message:
Dear friends, Albanian brothers and sisters everywhere in the region and the world.
Let me wish you out of my heart a good year for you and your families! 2022 Where in Hope the Life will start to return to normality after 2 years of really difficult years that have tested hard us!
This first day of New Year comes to Albanians with really good news. Today, Albania begins its two-year mandate in the United Nations Security Council. Since our team of diplomats in New York will have the right to attend the Security Council meetings as a non-permanent member, will have the right to present Albania's views on addressing the world's most hot security issues in the world. There will be the privilege of influencing the strength of our ideas and experience discussions on the sharpest threats that are in peace and stability today.
This mandate is not a gift that fell to from heaven to Albania. A mandate in the Security Council is something for which countries lobby and invest for years and decades. Whom you can only gain if you can persuade the vast majority of the countries of the world you are a serious country that you have professional and credible diplomacy, you have something worth to contribute to major global discussions. So today, we must feel all proud of Albanian diplomacy and what has achieved. We must be also proud of the fact that Albania today is seen from around the world as a serious and discreet actor, with a stable and credible policy, a serious contributor to security and peace issues.
This is an achievement for which every Albanian should feel proud. Starting from our brothers and sisters in Kosovo because there is no doubt that Albania will use this opportunity to advance the Kosovo issue, the process of recognition and membership in international organizations because Kosovo has been, it will be a sacred cause for Albania. We will work for Albanians, but we will work for our region to consolidate the achievements of the last decades and not to leave it to the destruction of destabilization of tensions. We will work with our allies and partners to advance our common priorities agenda, consolidating thus even more strong ties that unite us.

Many years ago, when the decision was taken to start the lobbying process for a country in the Security Council, everything seemed like an impossible dream. Crazy even. But here we are today and what seemed impossible today is a reality.
I believe this is the best proof since we Albanians decide to work, all together, patiently, with dedication, for us, there is nothing impossible.
