Albania's Ambassador to the United Nations, Ferit Hoxha, confirmed Albania's support for Ukraine's territorial integrity.

"A military attack by Russia agst Ukraine is not a crisis between Russia & the West. It is a challenge to European Security & to international security architects., which is based on UN Charter. It is an affront to Helsinki Final Act & its Decalogue upon which OSCE is founded," he writes.

"Narratives of spheres of influence in Europe, dictating by threats the geostrategic orientation of other countries are tools of another century, of another time, reminiscences of the cold war. Sovereign countries take decisions by their free will, not under the threat of the gun.
Instrumentalization of ethnic minorities, targeted cyber-attacks, interferences for political gains, genocide denial, glorification of war crimes & war criminals are acts seeking destabilization, create tension & should be treated as a threat to peace & security."
January 1, 2022 marked the beginning of Albania's mandate as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, a position it holds for the first time, 66 years after joining the UN.
Albania will be a temporary member of the Security Council at the United Nations for 2 years.
