Eight people have been left in prison by the Rotterdam court today, among them a 34-year-old Albanian. They are accused of links to drug trafficking of 70 thousand kilograms of cocaine. Although not all are directly related to cocaine trafficking.
More than 70 thousand kilograms of drugs were seized and 198 people were arrested last year in the port of Rotterdam. While today's persons have been convicted of links to traffickers and drug trafficking seized last year, Albanian media reports.
Suspects aged 19 to 34 years. Most of them come from Rotterdam and the surrounding area of the city. Among them is a 34-year-old identified as Maljon S. who was caught trying to flee to England. According to the Dutch authorities, this group was in the range of average drug users.
The Dutch prosecution has requested that the arrested persons be sentenced to three to eleven months. The highest sentence sought was for 26-year-old Youssef A. who had been arrested once before, caught with heroin.
