 30 commandos of the Albanian Armed Forces have departed for Kosovo, the Albanian Ministry of Defense announced.

This contingent will join the forces of the NATO Mission in Kosovo, KFOR.

The Minister of Defense, Niko Peleshi, said that this mission in Kosovo will contribute to peace in the Western Balkans region, as tensions have increased after the start of the occupation of Ukraine by Russia.

"In these challenging days of global peace and security, this doubles and increases the attention, but also the responsibility of each of us and each of you to serve professionally, with military discipline, with dignity in respect of the code of ethics and values ​​of our alliance", he said according to an announcement of the Ministry of Defense.


Meanwhile, the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces, Major General, Bajram Begaj, said that the deployment of forces in Kosovo is taking place at a "turbulent" moment of security on the eastern side of the alliance.

"Global security is more threatened than ever. The region and our country are not immune to these actions of Russia," he said.

The Albanian troops will serve alongside the troops of Croatia and Italy.

The deployment of Albanian troops to Kosovo comes a day after NATO said it was committed to ensuring security in Kosovo and throughout the Western Balkans.
