Kosovo issues 5-year residence permits for Albanian citizens

 Kosovo's Ministry of Internal Affairs distributed today the first five-year residence permits to the citizens of Albania.

The Minister of Interior, Xhelal Sveçla, has distributed the residence permits based on the agreement between Kosovo and Albania reached on November 26 in the joint meeting.

This agreement was signed with the common will to provide a better perspective for the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo and the Republic of Albania, in order to simplify procedures and facilitate the lives of citizens of both countries.

"With this agreement, the citizens of both countries benefit from the temporary residence permit for a period of five years and have significant relief of the criteria for equipment with a residence permit, with only a travel document and address declaration, significant reduction of service fees. This is another important step in the relations between the two countries towards improving the lives of citizens," said the Ministry of Interior.

Based on the bilateral international agreement with the Republic of Albania, for the facilitation of the procedures and conditions for obtaining the temporary residence permit signed on November 26, 2021, at the joint meeting of the two governments in Elbasan.

With this agreement, citizens of both countries benefit from a temporary residence permit for a period of five years (until now it was for a period of one year where citizens had to re-apply every year) and have significant relief of criteria for residence permit equipment, with only one travel document and address declaration, significant reduction of utility tariffs.

This is another important step in the relations between the two countries towards improving the lives of citizens.
