In a statement to the media, the chairwoman of the investigative commission for incinerators, Jorida Tabaku, said that the violations identified by this commission are extremely serious.
"Today, the violations identified in the commission are extremely serious. "It is a money-laundering scheme that has gone into the hands of state officials," Tabaku said.
Tabaku further said that lecturers, as well as the media, were paid to speak positively about incinerators.
"The element we managed to understand today from the interviews, in addition to violating the contracts, is the misuse and theft of state budget funds. In the case of Tirana, we have 1.3 million euros for school sponsorships, consulting contracts, who have paid individuals, teachers, to write positively about the incinerator. In the middle of the pandemic, we have a total travel expense of about 850 thousand euros. We have advertisements for the media for 450 thousand euros, but what is most important is the pyramid scheme set up and the payments of the companies owned by Stela Gugallja, Klodian Zoto, and Klodian Mërtiri", said Tabaku.
The issue of incinerators is a serious abuse of public funds where millions of euros have been misused and the then Minister of Environment Lefter Koka has been arrested so far.
