The Ukrainian Embassy in Albania has called on Albanians to join the foreign legion created to fight the Russians.
An announcement on the embassy's Facebook page reads: "Volunteers wishing to join the International Legion of Territorial Defense of Ukraine, please send an e-mail to the following address: DobrotvorUA@gmail.com
The legion was formed after the start of the Russian occupation and the call of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky for foreigners who wanted to join the war of his country for protection.
Denmark became the first European country to declare that it would allow its citizens to fight in Ukraine, while in the international media there are reports of various groups, mainly ex-military, who have decided to help Ukraine in this war.
But the Albanian state, like many other countries, punishes up to 15 years in prison for participating in wars that take place in foreign countries.
On February 18, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov accused mercenaries from Albania, Kosovo, and Bosnia and Herzegovina of being recruited to fight in Ukraine. The charge was dismissed by the Albanian authorities.
