Among the hundreds of applicants, at the age of 24, he managed to join the US National Space Agency (NASA).
He had passed all the tests, and when it came to the procedure to get the "key" that opened the doors of NASA offices, the system did not include Kosovo.
"It was interesting because when I went to get that badge or to access the NASA offices, it was necessary to have that badge, but I was the first person from Kosovo, and they did not have Kosovo listed in one of the options is to get a badge', Rama confesses.

Software engineer, Xhafer Rama from Turuqica of Podujeva is the first citizen from Kosovo who in the NASA system made it possible to recognize the Republic of Kosovo as a state.
"I had to wait all day, for Kosovo to be put on the list and for me to take the badge. Fortunately, the name of Kosovo has been set as one of the options for countries to join NASA", Rama says.
He told to Kosovo media all his experience in this prestigious institution and the work he did in the service of the US Department of the Interior.
"We have launched a platform that serves the US Department of the Interior. This platform aimed to get all the data of the disease called ‘Chikungunya’. "Now, whenever American troops land, one of the things they control is whether it is one of the areas affected by this disease, and they have used this platform," he explained, adding that the platform was launched after a year of work.
The name of Xhafer Rama is written on the stick of an astronaut at the NASA base in honor of the success of the platform created by him.
"This platform has taken the first place of the most used and most successful platforms at NASA base in 2018. As a reward, my name is written on the stick of an astronaut and it is in the 33rd building of NASA”, he emphasizes.
Rama arrived at NASA after the scholarship he had won and many projects he had created during his studies.
