Montenegrin President Milo Djukanovic has mandated URA leader Dritan Abazovic to form the new government.

Djukanovic and Abazovic met earlier today, where the President of Montenegro has informed the Deputy Prime Minister that he has completed the consultations and will give him the mandate.

"Representatives of the URA Movement and their political partners have unequivocally convinced me that they have a parliamentary majority for the election of the Government of Montenegro in the Parliament of Montenegro. Convinced that it is in Montenegro's best interest for the Government to be at full capacity as soon as possible, especially given the additional security and political challenges posed by the war in Ukraine and its reflection on the stability in our region. I expect the Parliament to hold a session and decide on the program and composition of the Government on the proposal of the mandator," Djukanovic said in a statement.

The URA and its leader, Dritan Abazovic, are seeking the formation of a minority government, which will include, in addition to the URA, the national Albanian and Bosniak minority parties and the pro-Serb SNP. Djukanovic's party and two other Social Democratic parties are also expected to receive support in parliament.
