 Two miners lost their lives today while another remained trapped after the collapse that occurred in one of the chrome galleries in the mine of Lajthiza village, in the district of Tropoja.

In a preliminary notification, the local police announced that “at around 11:55, in the village of Lajthiza, a gallery collapsed, where as a result the citizen AD, 41 years old, resident in Tropoja lost his life and it is suspected that inside are blocked also two miners ”.

Hours after the police report, the mine search and rescue team found another dead miner in the gallery.

The search and rescue team, ambulances, and the investigation team are at the scene.

Today's accident in the chrome mine in Lajthiza of Tropoja is the second of this year in the numerous mines, located in the north of Albania. On March 4, in one of the galleries in the mining area of ​​Bulqiza, a 40-year-old miner was seriously injured and transported by helicopter to the trauma hospital in Tirana.

Last year, three miners lost their lives in the chrome mines in northern Albania, while another risked his life due to the lack of safety conditions and difficulties in the exploitation of these mines, most of which have been in operation since the period of communism.
