The number of hospitalized in public hospitals in Albania has increased for the period January - April 2022.
In this period the number of hospitalizations increased by 17.5% compared to the same period last year. According to financial monitoring indicators for the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, for the first 4 months of this year, the number of patients admitted to hospitals was 86,392 patients, out of 73,556 patients las year.
According to the indicators, the number of patients treated in cardiology has increased by 42% compared to the same period of 2021. While in relation to 2020, when the pandemic started, hospitalizations of heart patients have increased by 76%.
In the period January-April 2020 hospitalizations fell due to fears of Covid-19 infections. Doctors warned that after the pandemic there will be an increase in heart surgery, due to post Covid-19 problems that needed to be treated in time.
"Covid-19 disease leaves short-term and long-term consequences in some systems and organs that need to be treated on time. Among the post-Covid-19 consequences are metabolic and cardiac problems, which often lead to dramatic problems that need interventions such as bypasses, coronary stents", said earlier to Monitor doctor Ilir Allkja.
During this period there was also a 4% increase in hospitalizations in psychiatric hospitals. The psychiatrist at QSUT, Fatime Elezi told "Monitor" that the hospitalizations have increased due to the use of narcotics by the chronically mentally ill who leave the hospitals.
"The increase in hospitalizations in psychiatric hospitals is not affected by Covid-19. In psychiatric hospitals, this tendency always appears, the number of patients sometimes decreases and increases.
The high figures of health problems in Albania are related to many factors, but the most important are corrupt doctors and the low quality of medicines.
