The Strasbourg court has condemned the Albanian government after the denunciation and the lawsuit made by 5 women from the Roma and Egyptian communities against segregation, in the 9-year school "Naim Frashëri" in the city of Korça.
But, discrimination against Roma does not happen only in the schools of the city of Korça.
The representative from the Center for Roma Rights, Manjola Veizi, said in the show "Sot" on "Euronews Albania", that discrimination of children of this community occurs in some schools in the capital of Albania.
It is the "Bajram Curri" school. There is also overcrowding due to the geographical position which often benefits us, but they tend to take them to another school. Roma children are concentrated here, and non-Roma children on another school.
During the pandemic, the school "Naim Frashëri" was reconstructed but remains problematic. "For about a year, we took the children from this school and sent them to another school, but even there they learned to be segregated," she said.
