Erkand Qerimaj after lifting 149 kilos in the Snatch style in Oran 2022 Mediterranean Games |
Albania has won another medal at the "Oran 2022" Mediterranean Games. The success this time comes from weightlifting, with Erkand Qerimajn who received the silver medal in the Snatch in the 73 kg weights, in a competition that was not without controversy, where the judges again became protagonists.
After failing the first two attempts with 148 kg, Qerimaj successfully completed the third attempt with 149 kg, bursting into celebration. But surprisingly two of the three judges initially considered it irregular. This brought strong protests from Qerimaj, coach Sokol Bishanaku, and FA president Elez Gjoza. Then in the review, the judge decided to consider it as regular evidence.
This result gave to weightlifter from Shkodra the gold at the moment, but in the last test, the Italian Mirko Zanni lifted 150 kg, taking first place. This was the fourth medal for Albania at "Oran 2022", as previously the athlete Luiza Gega, wrestler Zelimkhan Abakarov won gold medals, while wrestler Islam Dudaev received a bronze medal.
