Albanians are not only leaving but are finally abandoning the country. 4,500 people gave up their Albanian citizenship in the last 8 years for a European Passport. According to data from EUROSTAT, more than 521 thousand Albanian citizens have obtained citizenship in one of the countries of the European Union in the last 20 years.
From immigrant to the European citizen. More and more Albanians are giving up the passport of their country of birth to get that of a country that offers them more, at least in one direction, that of the economy. According to data from the Institute of Statistics, last year there were 724 relinquishments of citizenship, 41 percent more than in 2020 and 2 times more than in 2014.
