In a country with a population of about 2.8 million inhabitants and a small advertising market, there are many televisions that are especially focused on providing news.
The annual turnover of the 13 main private television stations in Albania is estimated at around 50 million euros in 2021, with an increase of around 24% compared to the previous year, when the country was in a pandemic that significantly affected the marketing budgets of advertising companies, which caused the majority of television stations to record stagnation or a decrease in income. The data was processed by Monitor, based on the declared balances for the years 2019-2021.
But, most of the income is generated by the margin from the others, from the two biggest televisions in the country, TV Klan and Top Channel, which have reported together almost 63% of the total annual turnover of 13 televisions.
"TV Klan" is the largest in the country, with an income of 2 billion leks (17 million euros), with an increase of 42.3% on an annual basis. However, the television emphasizes in its annual report that the increase in income was a result of the sale of the license for the broadcast of sports events "La Liga" in the territory of Kosovo and Albania. "In terms of expenses, we also have an increase, mainly personnel expenses by about 20%, as a result of the recruitment of employees for the opening of the Klan News channel. Other activity expenses have also had an impact on the growth, mainly those for the purchase of patents for sports events and movies with about 98%". The profits of TV Klan in 2021 were 230 million ALL, with a decrease of about 4% compared to the previous year.
"Top Channel" reported revenues of 1.6 billion lek (13.2 million euros), with a 16% increase on an annual basis. Top Channel states in its annual report that one of its strengths is the high visibility on the You Tube channel. According to the report, "even during the years 2022-2023, priority will be given to investments in the improvement of the technological infrastructure, investments started during 2021-2022". For three years, Top Channel has been making high profits, while previously it had minimal results. In 2021, the profit before taxes was 204 million leks, with an increase of almost 10% on an annual basis.
In 2021, "A2" television has become the third largest private channel in the country, with revenues of 391 million ALL (3.3 million euros), after a 24.2% increase in revenues.
In fourth place was "Vizion Plus", which saw a decrease in income in 2021 by 5%, to 362 million leks (3 million euros).
"News 24", which in 2020 was the fourth largest television, has not yet submitted its balance sheet for 2021. In 2020, his income was almost 3 million euros.
"Euronews", opened in recent years, has become the sixth largest television in the country, with an increase in annual turnover by 33%, to 2.4 million euros.
