The head of the European Parliament delegation for cooperation with Montenegro, Vladimír Bilčík, has reacted after the overthrow of the government of Dritan Abazović.

Through a post on social networks, Bilčík stated that Montenegro needs a truly pro-European government that can prioritize the strategic reforms of the European Union.

According to him, Montenegro can join the European Union the day it successfully solves some difficult internal political tasks.

"After last night’s vote of no-confidence Montenegro needs a genuinely pro-EU government that can prioritize strategic EU reforms over narrow political interests. Montenegro can join the EU when it manages successfully some hard domestic political tasks. We stand ready to help Montenegro in the EU.", Bilicik wrote on Twitter.

The Assembly of Montenegro voted in the early hours of the morning of August 20 no confidence motion of the government of Dritan Abazovic.

The government was overthrown with 50 votes in favor and one against. After this decision, Abazovic will work in a technical mandate until the election of the new government.
