Albania's General Director of Police Gledis Nano is dismissed

The General Director of the Police in Albania, Gladis Nano, is dismissed. The news was announced by Interior Minister Bledi Çuçi after yesterday's government meeting.

"The dismissal is related to the non-fulfillment of the objectives that were assigned to the General Director and mainly to the situation of the last few days", said Minister Çuçi.

For the moment, the duties of the General Director of the Police will be exercised by the Deputy General Director, Tonin Vocaj.

Gladis Nano has been part of the police for many years. He has been in charge of the Anti-Terror Directorate since February 17, 2016.

Nano has taken care of one of the most sensational files of recent years, that of the "imams" who were arrested and convicted of terrorism in 2013.

Another important file that Gladis Nano investigated was that of the terrorist cell of the Iranian government. Most recently, he led the repatriation of Albanians from the infamous camps in Syria.

Unlike the Council of Ministers, which clarified the decision to dismiss Nano with a statement by the Minister of the Interior, Bledi Çuçi, who said that the Director had not met the objectives in his office, the American Embassy appreciates him for the work done in the months he led the institution.

"We express our appreciation to Gladis Nano, who was a strong partner as director of the Albanian State Police and before that, as director of the Office against Terrorism," the US embassy post says.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, reacted to the dismissal of Gledis Nano from the position of General Director of Police.

Through a reaction on social networks, Berisha says that Nano has been dismissed, as he was cooperating in the investigations related to the brother of Prime Minister Edi Rama and the Minister of the Interior, Bledi Çuçi.

According to him, Nano was investigating the case in which German citizens lost millions of euros in a call center fraud scheme in Tirana, with which Olsi Rama, the brother of the head of the government, was connected.

Berisha emphasized that Nano and the Italian authorities discovered that the last shipment of 2.2 tons of cannabis was transported by the "villas sailing club boat", which according to him, is owned by the family of Minister Çuçi.
