Gazmend Friday: The Artist's Life, 2020, oil on canvas, 120 x 120 cm |
Sometimes it helps to relax and to look at the world from a different perspective. Here the artist displays his charm while casting a hopeful glance at the future.
The painter Gazmend Freitag loves his adopted hometown of Linz, where he has lived and worked since 2010. This can be seen in his latest pictures, in which he captures the beautiful architecture and landscape in and around Linz.
Gazmend Freitag is originally from Kosovo. In 1990, like many of his fellow citizens, he had to flee from the military regime in force there. Before moving to Austria, he lived in Germany for many years.
Like every artist, Gazmend Freitag appreciates a spacious, bright studio in which he can translate his impressions onto paper and canvas. He feels very comfortable in the northern district of Urfahr. He enjoys the colorful atmosphere, the small cafés and the proximity to the banks of the Danube.
Before Corona, Gazmend Freitag liked to meet friends for a glass of wine or go for a walk in the city and along the Danube for inspiration. Now he uses the many photos he has stored on his cell phone as templates for his drawings and paintings. In the spring, 20 of them will be on display in the Old Town Hall in Linz.
