Dick Marty |
The RTS program "Mise au point" has revealed the identity of the person who, at the end of 2020, warned the Federal Police Office (FedPol) that certain radical individuals of the Serbian intelligence services had plans to kill Dick Marty.
RTS reports that he is a 50-year-old born in Kosovo who worked for the Yugoslav Intelligence Service in the 1990s before becoming a double agent.
"It is clear that he infiltrates organized crime circles and sells his information to the police and intelligence services. He is considered a very reliable source."
Referring to RTS, for thirty years he has worked with several European services, especially the Belgian, German, and Swiss ones.
"This man learned about the existence of a conspiracy against the former prosecutor and councilor of the states of Ticino, Dick Marty, in the fall of 2020, while he was investigating the Germans between Serbia and Kosovo."
According to a document from the Public Ministry of the Confederation (MPC) which RTS was able to consult, it informs that the assassination was entrusted to the Serbs, "who have been carrying out such missions for a long time for the Serbian secret services, and who have been formed from them".
They would be "absolute professionals" who would master the assassination "without leaving a trace". One of them "has already brought weapons to Switzerland". Nationalists and opponents of Kosovo Independence.
These people hope that the murder of Dick Marti will be blamed on the Kosovar government, which in this way would be discredited at the international level. The double agent gives Switzerland the names of those behind the murder.
"Serious mistake"
"I gave them very good information," the informant explained to Focus. But then the Swiss authorities... They made a big mistake, I don't understand how they could do such a thing!
According to his testimony, which the RTS investigation was able to confirm, immediately after receiving his information, the Swiss authorities sent a request for information to their counterparts located in Belgrade.
FedPol has also attached the names of the sponsors of the assassination to the request. Taking advantage of a leak, the latter is immediately informed of the Swiss request and, checking, they immediately understand who betrayed them.
"I was in Pristina at that time, ready to travel to Serbia to continue the investigations. They called me from Switzerland to tell them that I should be careful and stop all contact with the Serbian group. I was furious! The Swiss have ruined everything", the informant protests.
The double agent goes to Serbia anyway and tries to convince the criminals that the information does not come from him. Lost effort. He is threatened. He realizes that his life is in danger.
Under protection in Switzerland
Assuming their responsibilities, the Swiss authorities then offered the informant to come and take refuge in Switzerland with his wife and children.
FedPol and the MPC provide him with complete anonymity.
In early 2021, the man moved with his family to German-speaking Switzerland. He benefits from the witness protection program and has been assigned a new identity. He is interviewed by the MPC as part of the Dick Marty investigation.
"I was sheltered and they gave me 1,000 francs a week," he says. "It's not much considering the fact that I lost everything. By grilling me, they destroyed thirty years of career".
Finally, relations are strained with FedPol and the MPC. The man does not strictly follow the security rules of the witness protection program. He even goes to a neighboring country without warning the Swiss.
"It's true that I didn't follow all the instructions," he admits. "But I have a daughter abroad. The Swiss promised me that I can see her".
In early 2022, the Swiss authorities issue the consequences and inform the double agent that he will no longer be eligible for the summer witness protection program.
"In the spring I left Switzerland, I had no choice, after they put me on the grill, the Swiss threw me like a dog". Contacted by RTS, FedPol and MPC did not want to comment on this affair.
"Today the double agent is hiding in a country neighboring Switzerland".
Meanwhile, Dick Marty lives under police protection for twenty-one months. His house is full of cameras and equipped with alarms and a safe room where he can take refuge in case of an attack.
