More than the lack of work, it is the insufficient income that pushes most Albanians to emigrate.

This finding is evidenced in a questionnaire developed by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, where it turns out that about 79 percent of them leave for the West for higher wages, local media reports.

Albania currently has the lowest level of the average salary in the European Region with around 468 euros, almost 2 times less than Serbia and Montenegro and significantly less than the European Union.

The same situation appears in the minimum wage, where Albania surpasses only Kosovo with a difference of a few euros.

Three decades after the fall of the communist regime, Albania is still considered one of the countries with the highest emigration flows in relation to the resident population, while the emigration have begun to cost dearly to Albania.
