The Second International Congress of Nanotechnology, (TNT 2022) NanoBalkan has started today in Tirana with the representation of prestigious Institutes of Technology from 25 different countries, and in a professional discussion about the achievements and challenges of today's technology, as well as the opportunities and ambitions development of Albania in this aspect, in the fields of health, safety, agriculture, environment. This major event is organized by the Phantoms Foundation (Spain) with the Albanian Academy of Sciences as the local organizer, the NanoAlb Institute established next to it, with the support of the Albanian Government and Institutions as well as the Spanish Embassy in Tirana.

Acad. prof. dr. Arben Merkoçi, director and coordinator of NanoAlb at the Academy of Sciences of Albania in his welcoming speech said: "Nanotechnology is the technology of this century and this conference brings to the capital of Albania so many scientists, colleagues, and friends from all over the world to show recent advances in their research and applications of nanotechnologies in important fields ranging from public health to energy, agriculture, environment, and more fields".

"Albania has just entered the final phase of membership in the European family. For this reason, it must reach its standards in education, especially in higher education and science, which are interconnected and condition each other. Therefore, the reform of the research system through the new law on science, which is being drafted and the priority support of its implementation, is and should be the priorities of the scientific institutions of the Academy itself and for the decision-making institutions" said the head of the Academy in his speech of Sciences Skender Gjinushi.

This conference, which will continue until October 7, in addition to the main sessions, will simultaneously offer several seminars that include a School of Nanobiosensors of interest to young scientists, a training seminar in the preparation/writing of European projects, the 3D Collaborative workshop Albania- Japan-Spain. This conference also includes an excellent example of the success of a European Project, SUSNANO, a project that aims to develop and implement the next generation of sustainable sensor technologies of interest for water monitoring, a great need for Albania in general. This project, which will have its initial meeting within this conference, aims to increase the scientific and innovative capacity of the University of Tirana through twinning with expert partners in this field, such as ICN2 in Spain, Olomouc University in the Check Republic, and Intelligentsia Consultants in Luxembourg.
