Police officers accompanying the 45-year-old Albanian, Spartak Dyrmishi |
On Tuesday, the Albanian police published footage of the voluntary surrender to the Greek police of the 45-year-old from Vlora, Spartak Dyrmishi, who is accused of raping a woman and attempting to rape another girl in Greece, VOA reports.
Greek and Albanian authorities cooperated to identify the suspect who had entered the Albanian territory on October 27 through the border point of Kakavija and then arrested him in the city of Vlore.
The extradition of the suspect to Greece was done with an accelerated procedure, due to the interstate agreement, official police sources said.
Albanian Interior Minister Blendi Cuçi and Greek Minister of Citizen Protection Takis Theodorikakos, according to the central Greek press, communicated several times about the case which provoked strong reactions in Greece.
According to the Greek police, a week ago the 45-year-old Albanian sexually assaulted a 34-year-old woman who was waiting to travel to work in a tourist district in Athens and then forcibly entered the car of a 25-year-old woman who stopped at a traffic light, threatening her with a knife.
According to the Greek police, the woman managed to park the vehicle on a sidewalk by getting off and calling for help, while the perpetrator got out immediately and started running to hide, but was recorded by the security cameras.
The Greek police said that the description made by the victims of the attack and then the sample of genetic material found in the house where he lived in Attica, helped in the identification of the 45-year-old and the cooperation with the Albanian authorities for his quick arrest.
