Turkish actress Pelin Batu reveals her Albanian roots

 Pelin Batu, the Turkish actress, historian, and author of many books, has posted on social networks a photo with the bust of Skanderbeg in Switzerland.

"With my great-great-grandfather, Scanderbeg, in Geneva", she wrote, becoming the next Turkish personality to reveal her Albanian roots.

Pelin is the daughter of a diplomat, Inal Batu, who spent most of her childhood and youth in different countries of the world. She completed high school in New York City. Where she started university. She graduated in history from Boğaziçi University in Istanbul. She also studied acting and music in New York.


Despite the number of books she has written, her popularity has come from movies and TV series.

Her father Inal Batu has been Turkey's Ambassador to the UN as well as Italy, among many other important diplomatic duties, her grandfather, Selahattin Batu, was a poet and writer, who graduated in zootechnics and genetics, in Germany.

Pelin Batu has not explained from which side of the family she has Albanian roots, but her grandfather Emin Bey's father was, according to the Turkish Wikipedia, the Chief Secretary of the Çanakkale Administration Council, while her mother, Avdije Hanëmja, the daughter of Haxhi Ahmet Bey, a familiar figure in Gallipoli. 

For many decades in Turkey, ethnic origin has been kept private. This has long since begun to change. It is believed that up to three million Turks may have Albanian origins.
