50 Albanian prisoners in British prisons will return to Albania to serve the remainder of their sentences. As the Daily Mail writes, this will rid the country of some extremely dangerous criminals and save the taxpayer the cost of their imprisonment.

Earlier this month, Rishi Sunak announced a joint agreement to speed up the return of Albanian nationals who make unfounded asylum claims here as part of a wider strategy to curb migration across the English Channel.

"There are more than 1,300 Albanian criminals in British prisons", writes the "Daily Mail", among others.

So, although sending 50 prisoners is a start, there are still many Albanian prisoners serving their sentences in England.

If this problem is to be solved permanently, deportation should become automatic immediately upon conviction. Likewise, curbing the massive flow of Albanian asylum seekers requires radical action and sustained political will.

People seeking refugee status in Britain have risen from 53 in 2020 to more than 13,000 this year, despite no significant change in the political situation in Albania. Most are young people lured by the economic advantages Britain has to offer, rather than genuinely trying to escape persecution.
