The UK and Albania will work together to tackle illegal migration.

The British Prime Minister, Rishi Shunak, held a telephone conversation with his Albanian counterpart, Edi Rama, on Thursday, in which he appreciated the positive contribution of the Albanian community living in Britain. Shunak also called for more cooperation to curb illegal immigrants, but also to fight organized crime, Euronews reports.

They discussed plans to increase cooperation, address common challenges, including closing the gaps that are preventing the rapid return of rejected asylum seekers. Prime Minister Shunak and Prime Minister Rama expressed their willingness to work together to address these issues and to deepen the broad UK-Albania relationship.

The long-standing relationship and close partnership between the two countries was also the focus of the conversation, during which the leaders committed to strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, and defense, including cyber security.

London wants to include Albania in the so-called white list, which would enable a quick rejection of Albanians' asylum requests and their immediate repatriation.

Only in the first 9 months of this year, over 11,000 Albanians entered Great Britain by dinghy.
