Serbian players debating with the Swiss where Shaqiri is seen |
The International Football Federation (FIFA) has fined the Serbian Federation 50,000 francs for the fans' insulting chants in the match against Switzerland.
In the World Cup match in Qatar, Serbian hooligans repeatedly insulted Xherdan Shaqiri and Granit Xhaka, the two Albanian players of Switzerland.
The fine of 50,000 francs was given due to the behavior of the Serbian players on the pitch, which was also unsportsmanlike.
"The Disciplinary Committee of FIFA has sanctioned the Football Federation of Serbia with a fine of 50 thousand Swiss francs and a partial closure of the stadium (of 25 percent), in the next official match of representative A. The punishment is for violation of articles 13 (discrimination) and 12 (misbehavior of players and officials) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code," the decision states.
This is the second FIFA punishment against Serbia related to anti-Albanian attitudes at the World Cup in Qatar. Previously, FIFA had punished the Serbian federation with 20,000 Swiss francs for the display of the discriminatory flag against Kosovo in the dressing room of Serbian players.
