The first case of infection with the XBB.1.5 variant of the coronavirus was confirmed on Thursday in Montenegro, the Public Health Institute of Montenegro announced.
"XBB.1.5. is a new omicron subvariant created by combining two other subvariants of this type. It was first registered in October in the United States of America, where it is currently circulating. European countries that have reported until now cases of infection with the XBB.1.5 subvariant are the United Kingdom, Denmark, France, Austria, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Iceland, Belgium, the Czech Republic, and Portugal," says the announcement of the Institute of Public Health.
Thus, Montenegro has also joined the list of countries where this mutation has been registered.
Health authorities in Montenegro urge citizens to be vaccinated and receive their booster dose of the bivalent vaccine at the recommended intervals because "those who are properly vaccinated have a milder clinical picture and a more favorable outcome of the disease ".
According to the latest data from the Institute of Public Health, "the total number of currently active cases of COVID-19 in Montenegro is 504".
"Since the beginning of the epidemic events (March 2020), the total number of registered cases of infection with the new coronavirus in Montenegro is 285,773", says the announcement of the Institute.
