The President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic kissing on the lips with the Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti, painting by Emira Murati |
Through her most recent paintings, Ermira Murati has communicated a political message.
She has shown the public a painting that is clearly provocative. In it, Albin Kurti, the Kosovo Prime Minister, and Aleksandar Vucic, the Serbian President, are seen kissing on the lips.
The work of the artist, who goes by the name "Orange girl" on social media, raises questions, as stated: Is this a kiss of friendship or a kiss of betrayal?
"Serenity and humiliation are anticipated from the kiss. Kissing is a gesture, but it never serves a neutral purpose. It takes on significance relying upon the specific situation, where, and why it is given. Kisses from painful and sad times are recorded in history's archive. However, history is also familiar with the kisses of brotherhood and even betrayal. Is this going to be one of them?” Murati writes.
