Vjosa Osmani in a public outlet |
President Vjosa Osmani issued a warning that mercenaries from the infamous Russian group "Wagner" are working with Serbian paramilitaries to bring weapons and military uniforms into Kosovo.
In an interview with the British newspaper The Telegraph, the country's president stated that covert operations are laying the groundwork for Serbia to launch a hybrid attack to annex Kosovo's territories, Euronews reports.
The alleged preparations by Serbia are connected to Russia's 2014 annexation of Crimea, when Russian soldiers dressed in "military uniforms" without distinguishing marks prepared the way for the peninsula's separation from Ukraine.
"Despite bringing weapons and uniforms, they are not officially a part of the Serbian army. Osmani stated, "Serbia wants to achieve its objectives without being referred to as a military operation."
"Prepare the situation for a possible annexation, not through a traditional military operation, but through a hybrid attack," the Serbs say, is their goal.
The removal of Serbian license plates that were issued illegally was opposed by Serbs in the north of Kosovo. By erecting barricades, they obstructed the roads. According to a British medium, the crisis got worse in December when Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vucic, who does not recognize Kosovo's independence, threatened to send the Serbian army to the north of Kosovo.
In the meantime, Kosovo's president stated that Belgrade and Russia's Wagner, who has recently begun recruiting Serbs for the war in Ukraine, continue to exacerbate tensions in the region.
"It's the same game if you look at what Putin did in 2014. He first used the Russians who lived there as instruments, then he staged a variety of bogus operations and sent these paramilitary groups. (With Wagner), there is abundant evidence that this was planned and organized by Serbian paramilitary groups. "This is a matter that is still being investigated, how many were at the border or inside (the territory of Kosovo)," she asserted.
We recall Russia's unjustified invasion of the Ukrainian state on February 24, which resulted in the deaths of thousands of people and extensive infrastructure damage.
