 The Ministry of Defense of Albania announced that the Albanian aid team has left for Turkey and it consists of 53 people, medical personnel and search and rescue specialists.

More than 2,300 people have been killed in Turkey and Syria by the powerful 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck both countries early Monday morning.

The Minister of Defense, Niko Peleshi, at the ceremony of sending off the Albanian team, that Turkey is a country that has supported Albania continuously, so, according to him, in a way, this is a return of the contribution.

"But even if a disaster happens to another country, our little Albania will show that it is always ready to make its capacities available because, in an emergency or solidarity, we are already part of The European Civil Protection Mechanism, where we are not only to receive but also to give", he said.


Turkey had helped Albania immediately after the earthquake of November 26, 2019, sending special teams and tools that engaged in search and rescue operations, as well as other aid such as umbrellas, food, and blankets.

Subsequently, the Turkish government has financed a project of 42 million euros for the construction of 522 houses for the inhabitants affected by the earthquake in the area of Kurbini in Albania.

From the 6.3 magnitude earthquake that hit Albania three years ago, more than 50 people lost their lives and thousands more were injured.
