Vjosa Osmani authorizes the Kosovo Security Force to help Turkey after the earthquake

 The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, in the capacity of supreme commander, has signed the authorization for sending the troops of the Kosovo Security Force to the international humanitarian operation in the Republic of Turkey to support the efforts of the Turkish authorities to overcome the tragic consequences of the earthquakes of today, local media say.

President Osmani expressed full solidarity with the people of Turkey and declared that the Republic of Kosovo will continue to provide the necessary support.


The death toll in Turkey and Syria has risen to at least 2,509 after a powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck southern Turkey in the early hours of Monday morning.

The epicenter of Monday's earthquake was about 26 kilometers from the city of Nurdagi and about 33 kilometers from the city of Gaziantep, the US Geological Survey said.

It should be noted that there were subsequent earthquakes, including one with a magnitude of 7.5 on the Richter scale.

Emergency teams are working to extract people who are under the rubble and are thought to number several hundred.
